FOCUS POINTS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CHARTER
The five focus points drawn up in the Environment Charter can be broken down into 35 initiatives to be implemented by the various parties. Depending on the type of initiative, the following parties may be directly involved: the airport administrator, the government, local authorities (planning regulations), the Directorate of Civil Aviation (flight procedures), aeronautical manufacturers, airlines, etc. The provisions concerning noise measurement and control are largely based on the recommendations of the French authority on airport noise control (ACNUSA).
The commitments of each party

For each of the Charter´s five focus points, the parties involved have undertaken to implement an action plan and a corresponding schedule.

  • Focus point 1: Improve noise assessment (4 initiatives)

Aim: Measuring noise and assessing noise disturbance resulting from aeronautical activity.

  • Focus point 2: Control noise emissions (14 initiatives)

Aim: Controlling noise at its source, particularly by banning the noisiest aircraft at night and changing air traffic procedures.

  • Focus point 3: Prevent and reduce noise disturbance (8 initiatives)

Aims:
- limiting the construction of new buildings in areas exposed to noise both now and in the future,
- providing acoustic insulation grants for residents within close proximity of the airport.
The Noise Exposure Plan (PEB) and the Noise Disturbance Plan (PGS) are legal instruments which aim to prevent and reduce noise disturbance.

  • Focus point 4: Develop environmental management (2 initiatives)

Aims:
- carrying out a comprehensive environmental inspection (noise, air and water quality, waste management, etc.),
- setting up an environmental management system with the aim of receiving ISO 14001 certification.

  • Focus point 5: Maintain information and dialogue (7 initiatives)

Aims:
The importance of communication and information transparency has led the various parties to set up facilities to ensure ongoing dialogue and consultation, including:
- the Cinq sur Cinq newsletter for local residents,
- the establishment of Aroplace, a zone devoted to sustainable development within the airport.

Aroplace - The sustainable development zone
Cinq sur Cinq - The newsletter to local residents
